2018 Buick Enclave “Avenir” will have ionic air purifier
Branded as an Enclave, Buick’s 2018 Enclave Avenir will be a sub-brand of the all-new, second-generation Enclave. The luxury crossover will be powered by GM’s 3.6-liter V-6 engine, with a new nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine is preliminarily rated 302 hp. FWD is standard but AWD is available. The Enclave Avenir includes Buick’s first application of GM’s rear-view camera mirror.
The second-generation Enclave rides on the long-wheelbase (120.9-inch) version of GM’s C1XX chassis, with a lower roofline and more aggressive stance than the previous generation.
Cabin Air Ionizer
Buick has introduced an air ionizer feature that will increase air quality, reduce internal and external odors along with bacteria, pollen, viruses and dust. In the ionic air system, negatively-charged ions attract airborne contaminants and break down their structure, cleaning the cabin air.
The ionizer can reduce external and internal odors, bacteria, viruses, dust, debris and pollen, and perhaps improve driver alertness. It requires no maintenance, Buick says.
Distinctive headlights with more than 100 LEDs, special badging and a mesh grille with chrome wings give the crossover a unique look. The Avenir has six-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels with a pearl nickel finish. All Enclaves are available in five exterior colors. All Enclave models have seven-passenger seating in three rows; Avenir has an available chestnut-and-ebony interior with seat piping, contrast stitching, and embroidered front headrests. Other unique features include a wood-accented steering wheel, Avenir floormats, and Avenir script sill plates on the front and rear doors.
The 2018 Enclave will have OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (requires AT&T data plan after initial trial period), five years of complimentary OnStar Basic Plan, and the myBuick app with OnStar Smart Driver. The hands-free power-programmable liftgate has a logo light.
In a press release, GMC/Global Buick VP Duncan Aldred said: “This is a vehicle intended for Buick customers who demand the best and the latest our brand has to offer.”
The 2018 Enclave and Enclave Avenir will be on sale in Fall 2017.
