August Sales Figures Show Nissan is Only Automaker to Post an Increase

GM and Ford posted big declines in August sales while Nissan was the only major automaker to see an increase. Other automakers didn’t fare so well either.

Ford said Wednesday its U.S. sales fell 26.5 percent in August, Toyota’s sales dropped 9.4 percent and Honda saw a 7.3 percent decline, reports the AP and MSNBC.com
GM reported a 20.3 percent slump in sales from a year ago but a 31 percent improvement over its July totals, mostly due to its employee pricing for everyone on many models. GM announced today it would extend the employee discount incentive until Sept. 30.
Nissan was the only major automaker to show a sales gain in July and did it yet again, with a 13.6 percent increase in August sales. Nissan said its car sales fell 0.8 percent but its truck sales climbed 34.8 percent on strong sales of its Frontier, Xterra and Quest models and the Infiniti EX and FX crossovers.
