If You Want a Dependable Vehicle, Buy a Lexus
Lexus holds on to the top spot on J.D. Power and Associates’ list of vehicle dependability once again. Lexus beat Buick, who tied with them last year for the number one spot.
It’s the 14th straight year Toyota’s high-end brand has held the highest ranking in the annual study, which measures problems experienced by original owners of vehicles after three years, reports the AP and USA Today. The study says Lexus had 120 problems per 100 vehicles, down from 145 last year.
Ford’s Mercury brand ranked second, GM’s Cadillac was third, Toyota was fourth and Honda’s Acura luxury brand was fifth. Land Rover, which Ford sold this year to India’s Tata Motors, was the worst-performing brand, with 344 problems.
Overall, vehicles industry-wide fared better than they did a year ago. The industry average improved from 216 problems last year per 100 vehicles to 206 this year.
Although Buick, owned by GM, tied with Lexus last year for the top spot, this year they fell to sixth place, with 163 problems.
The number one problem cited in the study, based on responses from more than 52,000 original owners of 2005 model-year vehicles, was wind noise, followed by noisy brakes, pulling to the left or right, dashboard issues and window fogging.
