34-MPG VW Passat 1.8T Will Start At $21,715
Volkswagen’s new 1.8T turbocharged four-cylinder engine will make its first appearance in the 2014 VW Passat. The Passat, which will get 34-mpg with the new high tech 1.8T engine, will start at $21,215.
The 2014 VW Passat 1.8T will get 24-mpg city and 34-mpg highway with a 28-mpg combined score, which is up 3-mpg from the 2.5-liter five-cylinder’s combined mpg. The new 1.8-liter direct injected four-cylinder will have 170-horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
The base Passat will start at $21,715 and come with a five speed manual transmission. The Passat 1.8T Wolfsburg will start at $24,785. The 2014 Passat SE will start at $25,295.
The new Volkswagen 1.8T engine doesn’t have anything besides its displacement in common with the old 1.8T that did service in the VW GTI, Jetta, Passat and Beetle as well as the Audi A4 and TT in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
