BMW AG has recently announced it will be halting production at some of its German plants due to lack of market demand. In doing so, it will become part of a growing group of manufacturers who have had to cut back on production in recent months.
The company’s plant in the eastern German city of Leipzig will close for a week at the end of this month and its factory in Regensburg will shut down during the Bavarian autumn holidays from November 3 to 7. BMW’s main plant in Munich will also be shutting down during the same Bavarian holidays.
The good news for factory workers at BMW though, is that the company employs a system where the worker stores up accumulated overtime hours. Workers on average have stored up to 300 hours of overtime (about 40 days) that they can cash in during times like this, or when they are sick. With the Bavarian holidays coming up, for these workers this is like a mini vacation!
