Chrysler Will Make Another Round of Buyout Offers to its Employees
Chrysler said today it will make another round of early retirement and buyout offers to factory workers in the Detroit area to reduce the number who are on indefinite layoff, reports the AP and USA Today.
Chrysler’s new buyout offer includes a new education option that will give employees health benefits and cash so that they can go back to school for retraining while supporting their families. This education benefit will be offered in conjunction with the state of Michigan.
Details about the early retirement and buyout offers will be given to workers this month. Chrysler employs about 45,000 hourly workers worldwide. No word has been given yet on how many of those employees will be eligible for the offers.
Chrysler currently has a reported 2,000 people on layoff at all of its factories.
