The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently issued a recall of certain Cooper Brand tires. Cooper Tire is recalling the Cooper CS4 Touring (VR) tires, size 215/55R17, produced between September 7 and October 11, 2008. The reason for the recall is that these tires may have been cured for an inadequate amount of time in their molds.
This is a situation that can lead to tread separation, possibly resulting in loss of vehicle control and a crash. It’s a very similar situation to the Firestone/Ford Explorer debacle a few years back. In accordance with the recall, Cooper Tire will notify owners and replace, mount and balance any defective tires free of charge. Cooper Tire dealers will then examine suspect tires to see if they fall in the recall population.
