Ford Releases Details on New Powertrains for Fusion and Milan
The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan have sold well. In fact, these cars have helped keep Ford’s head above water these past few years, but they’ve all shared one common problem – old engines. You see, though both of these cars were a fresh take for Ford from both a design and build standpoint, they’ve been stuck with Ford’s aging four and six-cylinder engines. Not anymore.
Ford has uncharacteristically started to reveal how the new-for-2010 Fusion and Milan models will come with the company’s all-new next-generation powerplants. Starting with the aging 2.3-liter four-cylinder, it gets replaced by an all-new 2.5-liter four, getting almost 15 more horses and boasting better fuel economy.
Next, the archaic 3.0-liter Duratec V6 engine is finally replaced with an all-new version, boasting some much needed improvements, while a 3.5-liter V6 with 263-hp makes sure the "sport" model lives up to its name. All the engines are paired with Ford’s new six-speed automatic, which helps net a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy for the four cylinders and a four percent improvement for the sixes. Features like a new electric power steering, an adaptive spark ignition system and a deceleration fuel shut-off feature all help to make these cars the most efficient new Fords currently out in the market.
