Future Cars: Audi A5 Cabrio
With the release of the gorgeous, new Audi A5 coupe, it’s only safe to assume that the A4 convertible’s replacement will now be based on the coupe platform. Speculation has turned to fact as many insiders have already confirmed this information. Equipment should mirror the coupe.
The standard engine will be Audi’s 3.2-liter FSI V6, while European-spec A5s will likely get a small displacement four-cylinder and a pair of turbodiesel V6’s. The thoroughly modern 3.2-liter V6 is capable of 262 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. Both a six-speed manual and a CVT (continuously variable transmission) are available in the A5 coupe so they should also see duty in Cabrio form.
The real question though is whether or not the car will come with a conventional soft-top or the new in-vogue convertible hardtop that its competitors like to use. Sources are mum on that one but one insider said the car looks even better with its top off. I can only imagine, as the coupe is already stunning.
Above: This is just a CG image, but it gives us a good idea of what the A5 Cabrio will look like.
