Ikea Concept Car – Are You Kidding Me?
Is this an April Fool’s Day prank or a new car from Sweden? The Swedish furniture giant Ikea apparently has a Web site advertising a concept car it plans on debuting April 1.
Named the Ikea Leko, the car is completely covered in the ad, but looks like a bubble-shaped hatchback under that tarp.
Jalopnik has a pretty funny explanation of the car’s ad:
“We’re introduced to the car by the car’s supposed designer, Christophe Grozs, who extols the virtues of this new environmentally friendly concept car from IKEA. Our French is pretty rusty, but according to the introduction, the car is a modular design which can operate as a coupe or as a convertible, and has the full backing of the World Wildlife Fund France, whatever that means.”
My guess is that it will be a kid’s car bed or play area or something. If this were a real car, the automotive industry would have heard something about it a long time ago. Kudos, Ikea on your marketing. This is a great way for people to talk about your company. I like it.
