Rumors of Honda’s S2000 Replacement Flood in
The Honda S2000 is a great sports car. Boasting awesome looks, thrilling performance and light weight, the S2000 is a proper sports car through and through. Still, this little darling has been on the market for more than five years now and is in need of a replacement. Honda is readying a whole new slew of sports cars with the new NSX heading the cause and taking up most of the attention. But secretly, the engineers at Honda have been tooling away at the replacement for the S2000.
Rumors of a new, lightweight V6 boasting almost 300-hp are floating around, but with the way things are going, don’t be surprised if a potent four-cylinder is again employed. Honda is a four-cylinder specialist and the current four in the S2000 already boasts alomost 250-hp in naturally aspirated form. Another 30-hp doesn’t sound too hard to accomplish.
One thing that is interesting is that some are talking of a simple "perfomance hybrid" version that would mate the existing four-cylinder with a powerful electric motor to aid in performance. Whatever they use, the goal has been said to be a sub-5 second 0-60mph run and 1.0G worth of cornering force at the skid pad. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
