VW Debuts Car-2-Car Communication
Volkswagen demonstrated the use of its Car-2-Car communication system in Germany Thursday. The Car-2-Car system will use wireless LAN technology, which is what allows laptop computers to access the Internet, in order to communicate information on road hazards between vehicles. Volkswagen has been working closely with other carmakers to develop a universal language for cars to communicate with.
During the demonstration, VW showed how the Car-2-Car network would use information taken automatically from one vehicle to warn another about an upcoming emergency vehicle, motorcycle at an intersection, stopped car and construction site. The system will also be able to warn about icy roads, traffic jams and accidents, Jalopnik reports.
