Diesel Ram 1500 Price Starts at $30,180
The 2014 Ram 1500 will be the first of the modern half ton pickups to get a diesel engine. The 2014 Ram 1500 diesel will be powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine built by VM Motori that makes 240-horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Ram hasn’t released fuel economy figures for the Diesel engine but expect it to beat the V6’s 25-mpg highway.
The least expensive 2014 Ram 1500 will be a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 powered two-wheel drive truck with 395-horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy with the V8 will be 15-mpg city and 22-mpg highway. The 2014 Hemi Ram 1500 price will start at $24,605 with two-wheel drive.
The V6 Ram 1500 will actually cost more than the V8. The Pentastar V6-powered 2014 Ram 1500 price will start at $25,295 and will be rated at 18-mpg city and 25-mpg highway.
The diesel 1500 Ram will use the same eight-speed transmission as the V6, which is odd because the V8 uses a six-speed transmission. The V6 engine only costs $1,000 more than the V8, so the older transmission in the V8 is probably a cost-cutting move to keep the base price of the Ram in line with the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150.
