Electric Smart Car Revealed at Paris Auto Show

Smart showed off its new electric car Thursday at the Paris Motor Show.  The car will be called the Smart ED, for electric drive.  The new Smart ED will have a range of about 90 miles before it needs a recharge.

"The future will see an ever-increasing proportion of traffic on the roads in urban centers around the world," says Dieter Zetsche, the president of Smart’s parent company, Daimler.  "Zero-emission electric cars could shape the image of environmentally aware cities because zero local emission motoring is no longer science fiction."

Production of the ED will start as early as the end of 2009, reports MSNBC.  Five hundred charging stations are being installed in Berlin this year while Smart does real world testing of the ED.
