Deadline For Hybrid Tax Credit is Friday

If a hybrid or diesel vehicle is on your list, you’re almost out of time to qualify for a federal tax credit. If you buy select hybrid, diesel or natural gas vehicles before Dec. 31, 2010, you could receive a tax credit anywhere from $900 to $4,000 when you file your taxes in 2011.

These tax credits stem from the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Kicking Tires reports, and are different from the new tax credits for the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf.

The tax credits stopped being offered after an automaker sold 60,000 qualifying vehicles, so many mainstream hybrids from Toyota, Ford and Volkswagen, for example, have already been phased out.

Kicking Tires has compiled a list of current vehicles available for the federal tax credits. There are also individual tax incentives which vary by state.
