Shoppers are Most Interested in Used Hybrids

Kelley Blue Book’s Hot Used-Car Report shows which used vehicles online shoppers are researching on its site throughout the month. The data also includes a list of the top and bottom movers that month.

The segment with the biggest increase in used car shopper activity was hybrid SUVs, which were up 20 percent compared to August. Hybrid cars, hybrid trucks and hybrid crossovers also saw more consumer interest in September.

Used Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrids saw an increase in shopper activity in September.

"Consumers seem to be realizing that many hybrid SUVs and crossovers are now entering the used-car market, and these used options may provide a better deal than their new-car counterparts," said Hwei-Lin Oetken, VP of market intelligence for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com, in a statement. "Used-car retail shopping activity on kbb.com also indicates a strong push toward 2008 model-year vehicles, as many of the top vehicles experienced a redesign or launched brand-new for that model year."

According to the September report, minivans saw the biggest decline in used car retail shopper activity, and were down 15 percent compared to August.

If you’re in the market for a used vehicle, KBB’s report may help you see what other shoppers are interested in buying. For example, shoppers are interested in the 2008 Suzuki SX4 and Mercury Milan in September. But the 2009 Toyota Sienna and 2008 Volvo XC70 had very little shopper interest, so if those cars are on your list, you should be able to get a good deal on one.
