Tundra Diesel On The Way – 2016 Toyota Tundra Will Use Cummins Turbodiesel
The next generation of the Toyota Tundra, set to launch in 2016, will get a diesel engine. Diesel specialist Cummins will build the engine for the 2016 Tundra diesel. The Nissan Titan will use the same diesel starting in 2015.
The 2016 Toyota Tundra diesel will use a 5.0-liter V8 by Cummins which will make 300-horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Ward’s Auto says that the Cummins engine will most likely be a placeholder for Toyota. The company will build its own diesel engine if the oil burner proves popular enough.
Nissan had hoped to share some of the costs of manufacturing a small pickup with another carmaker. Before Chrysler’s bankruptcy, a plan was in place to use the same truck for the second generation Nissan Titan and the 2014 Ram 1500. After taking over Chrysler, Fiat killed the Titan-Ram badge engineering plan. Nissan decided to use the Turbodiesel V8 in the unique Nissan Titan and bear the costs itself. The Ram will use a diesel engine from Fiat’s stable.
