Seat cars are something else. A subsidiary of Volkswagen, the Spanish car maker has a knack for taking VW chassis’ and clothing them in gorgeous bodywork and design.
The latest of these stunning examples is the new Leon Linea R. This version of the little Leon hatchback has been thoroughly upgraded and revised. The car’s more aggressive look comes courtesy of new front and rear bumpers, chrome mirrors and 18” "Supercopa" wheels. Behind those sweet wheels are some huge disc brakes and painted calipers which really reinforce the look.
On the inside, a new sporty steering wheel and aluminum pedal continue the sporty atmosphere. Power will come courtesy of three engine choices: a 170-horsepower 2.0-liter TDI diesel, a 160-hp 1.8-liter TSI and a 200-hp 2.0-liter TSI, which we get in the GTI. The non-U.S. TDI option (lucky Spaniards!) manages 39 mpg, but is only available with a manual gearbox. All the usual electronic safety aids like ABS and ESP will be there too.
There is only one thing this car is missing to be perfect – U.S. certification. Unfortunately, SEAT vehicles are only available in Europe, which is a real shame. I believe I belong to a big group of enthusiasts who wouldn’t mind being able to purchase one, even if it was through a Volkswagen dealer. For now, I can only dream.
