GM to Add Extended Warranty to its Used Vehicles
GM will offer a one-year, 12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty starting Sept. 13 on its used vehicles in an effort to win over customers cautious of Detroit-built cars and trucks, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The warranty will be applied to all GM Certified Used Vehicles from Buick, Chevrolet, Saturn, GMC and Pontiac sold in the U.S. going back to the 2003 model year. On its used vehicles, GM currently offers a five-year, 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty and a three-month, 3,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
GM’s goal with the added warranty is to increase sales and residual values of its vehicles. The warranty will cover any vehicle defect outside normal wear and tear.
"We’ve upped our game and made significant strides in quality," said Jamie Hresko, GM North America vice president of quality. "This shows GM’s confidence."
