Watch Out Baddies! Dodge Gives the Boys in Blue a Hemi!
Dodge has just released official pictures of its new police vehicle, aptly named the Dodge Charger Police Car. It features all the goodies a police officer might want or need, most importantly the one thing they all want more of, power. That’s Hemi power to be more specific.
The Detroit auto giant claims that cop car sales have jumped more than 17 percent since 2007. Ford has had the market covered in many areas with its cheap to buy, cheap to own and cheap to maintain Crown Victoria cop cars. But those cars are no longer considered safe or cheap. As parts get used up and Crown Victoria production comes to an end, police all over the country are looking for an alternative. One with a Hemi would not hurt either.
Dodge claims that the ’09 Charger police car with the 5.7-liter Hemi engine is "the most powerful production police vehicle on the road, producing 368-hp and 395 lb-ft of torque."
Whether or not that will bode well with police departments around the country remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, it won’t be so easy getting away this time.
