Volkswagen, Audi Have Funniest Auto Commercials So Far For Sunday’s Big Game

Automakers are some of the biggest spenders when it comes to advertisements for Sunday’s big game. They pay a few million dollars with the hope that you’ll buy their cars. GM is back this year with a few commercials and other automakers have purchased ad spots as well.

We’ve viewed the ads that are currently available to preview on YouTube and the two funniest ones, in our opinion, are from Volkswagen and Audi.

Volkswagen has two ads this year. One is for its New Beetle, called "Black Beetle". The other ad is for VW’s 2012 Passat. Volkswagen said in a statement, "Volkswagen brings Star Wars™ to one of TV’s most talked about events. Accompanied by John Williams’ iconic ‘The Imperial March,’ the spot features the most infamous villain in the galaxy, a pint-sized Darth Vader who uses the Force when he discovers the all-new 2012 Passat in the driveway. The two iconic brands leverage humor and the unforgettable Star Wars score to create an emotional spot and make Super Bowl ad history."

Audi said in a statement its 2011 ad spot, "Release the Hounds", follows two fugitives who attempt to break out of luxury prison.

"Challenging viewers to re-think luxury, the ad will humorously feature a number of elements that recall the heyday of old luxury and will culminate with an unforgettable and comical cameo by Kenny G. The spot highlights the award-winning 2011 A8 sedan, Audi’s most technologically-advanced vehicle and the apex of Audi’s new luxury lineup."
