Diesel Ram 1500 Immensely Popular – 8,000 Orders In 3 Days
It looks like Ram was on to something offering a diesel engine in a half ton pickup truck. Dealers are chomping at the bit to get a diesel half-ton truck on their lots knowing that the prospect of more power, better fuel economy and a longer life will make these trucks popular. The $31,030 2014 Ram 1500 diesel’s first allocation, 8,000 trucks, sold out in just three days.
The 2014 Ram 1500 diesel will use a 3.0-liter turbo EcoDieselV6 engine with 240-horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. With fuel economy ratings of 20-mpg city and 28-mpg highway, it’s not hard to see why the Ram 1500 diesel is popular.
Ram is definitely benefiting from the fact that its diesel half ton is the first to the market, Both Nissan and Toyota will be using a 5.0-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine with 300-hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The Cummins name is legendary for both its reliability and power in the Ram 2500 and 3500 HD models, so it will be interesting to see Ram competing against the Cummins powered trucks. The Nissan Titan diesel will be released for the 2015 model year and the Toyota Tundra diesel will be a 2016 model.
