Mercedes-Benz Boosts Coverage of Certified Pre-Owned Extended Warranty

Mercedes-Benz has increased the coverage of its optional extended warranty for its certified pre-owned vehicles in the U.S. Both the one- and two-year packages will now cover more than 100,000 miles.

Mercedes-Benz has three warranties for its vehicles. New Mercedes-Benz vehicles have a four-year/50,000 mile warranty. Once the new car warranty expires, the certified pre-owned (CPO) limited warranty kicks in, and covers the vehicle for another year, or up to 100,000 total accumulated miles.

After the second warranty, the certified pre-owned limited warranty, expires, the optional extended limited warranty begins. The extended limited warranty covers the certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz vehicle for another 12 months or up to 120,000 total accumulated miles, or 24 months or up to 135,000 total accumulated miles, depending on the package you purchase.

If a certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz vehicle is no longer covered by the new car warranty, the Mercedes-Benz CPO limited warranty automatically kicks in when the car is purchased. The CPO limited warranty covers the engine and power train, steering, suspension, brakes (excluding wear of discs and pads), electrical system, climate control system and navigation.

Mercedes-Benz basically increased its optional extended warranty one-year package from 100,000 miles to 120,000 miles and the two-year package from 100,000 miles to 135,000 miles, starting February, 2011.

"With each Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz comes peace of mind, because each vehicle is backed by one of the most comprehensive pre-owned vehicle limited warranties available," said Scott Penza, department manager, pre-owned operations, MBUSA. "A Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz is much more than a ‘used’ car; it’s a pre-owned vehicle built by a company famous for its engineering technology and commitment to safety, quality and reliability."

Mercedes-Benz says that a typical certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz vehicle is two to three years old, but vehicles up to six model-years old with up to 75,000 total vehicle accumulated miles are eligible. There is no deductible or additional fees for service, parts or labor covered under Mercedes-Benz’ CPO extended limited warranty.

Basically, the third warranty, the CPO extended limited warranty, which buyers have to purchase and choose the one- or two-year package, begins the moment the vehicle’s new car warranty and subsequent CPO limited warranty coverage ends, with no time overlap among the three warranties.
