Subaru Outback Named SUV of the Year by Motor Trend Magazine
For the second year in a row, one of Subaru’s vehicles has been named Motor Trend magazine’s sport utility vehicle of the year. The 2010 Subaru Outback was chosen as this year’s winner, with the Forester claiming the prize last year.
Motor Trend magazine’s editors said they voted 10-1 for the Outback because of its driving refinement, fuel economy and handling on and off the road, the AP reports. The 2010 Outback was chosen from among 11 SUV contenders. The SUVs were judged based on exterior and interior styling, engineering excellence, functionality, efficiency, safety and value.
Editor-in-Chief Angus MacKenzie said Subaru is reshaping the SUV by merging a car-based station wagon with an SUV’s off-road and hauling capabilities, the AP reports.
The 2010 Outback ranges in price from $22,995 to $30,995.
Subaru fared well against its competitors in September’s sales figures. The automaker was up one percent compared to September 2008.
Motor Trend’s new issue will be available at newsstands Nov. 3.
